The Leaving Hour · last updated 24 October 2026

The Leaving Hour tells you when to leave for the trips you plan. It collects only what it needs to do that. There are no ads, no tracking across other apps or websites, and your data is never sold.

What stays on your iPhone

Your trips, places, alerts and departure history are stored on your iPhone. Your location is used on your iPhone to work out travel time from where you are and to notice when you've left.

What our server receives

So alerts and Live Activities keep working while the app is closed, your iPhone sends our server: each upcoming trip's name, destination, start point (a saved place, or your location shortly before you leave when a trip starts from your current location), arrival time, travel mode and any stop; the push tokens Apple issues for notifications and Live Activities; and counts of travel-time lookups, used to keep costs and limits in check.

Dated trip details, including coordinates, are deleted about an hour after each arrival time. Repeating trip definitions are kept until you delete the trip or your data. A record of recent travel times per route (no coordinates) is deleted after 45 days of disuse.

Travel-time services

To estimate travel times our server and your iPhone ask Apple Maps, and for public transport timetables Google. These requests contain the start and end coordinates and the time of travel, but not your name or Apple Account.

Sharing trips

When you share a trip, its definition is stored in Apple's iCloud and shared with the people you invite. Your location is never shared.

Shared leave alerts: people on a shared trip who use the free plan get your leave alerts for that trip instead of checking traffic themselves. They see your leave time and travel time for the trip, and a notice when you have left (for example "Sam leaves in 10 min" and "Sam has left"), using the first name iCloud shows them for you. They never see where you are. You can switch this off for each trip on the trip's screen. To send these alerts, our server keeps which phones follow each shared trip and the first name their phone shows for you, until they leave the trip or the trip stops being shared.

Purchases and the free week

Purchases are handled by Apple. Our server receives Apple's signed records of your subscription and an app-specific identifier for your Apple Account, so your free week and Pro work on all your devices and aren't restarted by reinstalling. We never see your name, email or payment details.

Deleting your data

Deleting a trip removes it from our server. To have everything our server holds about your iPhone erased, email us at the address below. The only thing kept is the date your free week started and your subscription status, so the free week can't be repeated.
